Wednesdays In The Word: John 1:29 (there’s Jesus)

LOOK, THERE’S JESUS

The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”

It is a Brave April and my own thoughts of bravery, of courage, in life and in words, are all mingled up with John the Baptist.  Thinking of him just doing, just being, and not apologizing for it.  Thinking of him making bold his purpose while refusing to sugar coat his work.  Thinking of him as he allows the chips to fall where they fall–neither being aggressive nor passive, just being, and doing, and allowing his work to be divisive if divisive it need be.

I picture him in the midst of the crowds, holding his own, doing his thing, and then suddenly seeing Jesus.  It was a total set up.  He had intentionally set himself up to recognize Jesus when Jesus came.

I THINK THAT’S HOW WE ALL DO IT WHEN WE DO IT BEST.

We do the work we’ve been given to do, we say the words we’ve been given to say, we love the people we’ve been given to love, we serve the people we’ve been given to serve, we hold the conversations that come our way, we stay present without pretension, and we keep the eyes of the heart on the lookout for Jesus, the ears of the spirit on the listen for the Voice who testifies when he is near.

“Look,” we say, in words or meanings or deeds when we spy him, “There’s Jesus, who takes away the sins of the world. Look, look, he’s right there.”
