May these words of my mouth, and this meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my Rock and Redeemer. – Psalm 19:14
I often write about scripture because it is the lens through which I understand existence, and it burns in me to tell what I see. The Christian Bible describes reality. As my dear friend and pastor David Manock often says: it’s not that we interpret the Bible, it’s that the Bible interprets us.
Sit with the Christian scriptures long enough and your heart will be exposed, sit even longer and the world will make sense, keep sitting and there is Jesus. Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, who holds all things together, who places eternity in our hearts, who stirs our deepest longings, and in whom we are confronted by our deepest sins–and our even deeper, more profound, yearnings for mercy. Jesus, in whom and through whom and of whom are all things, including us. Including you.
“Will you also leave?” Jesus asked, turning to the twelve.
“Lord, to whom would we go?” Peter replied. “You have the words of eternal life.”
