“William,” Ellenor said, crouching down to see the eyes of her little brother, “where is Jesus?”
“Um, gone?” he said, ‘gone’ being his standard response to any question having to do with location.
“No!” She laughed, “he’s in your heart. Right here, see, William, in your heart!” And so saying, she patted his chest. As he was wearing overalls, his chest was covered in a large square pocket, perfect breeding ground for a two-year-old’s heresy.
“Where is Jesus?” she asked again.
William bent his chin and using his fingers, peered into the the darkness of his pouch. His examination must have proved worthwhile for without hesitation he exclaimed:
“In mine pocket!”
